This quiet and beautiful Savoyard village is conveniently situated just one hour's drive from Geneva Airport. You will find a good range of shops, restaurants and bars - including the 'International' which is a great meeting point after a fantastic day's skiing. An '8-8' shop, butcher and baker are all located in the village and the huge Champion supermarket is just outside on the road towards Morzine.
Local skiing is at La Grand Terche and offers 34 km of downhill, partly through the pretty forest and Morzine( just 5km from St Jean d'Aulps) gives quick access to the vast Portes du Soleil ski area, with over 650km of skiing and boarding for all abilities. During the winter months the free Navette ski bus runs through the village (10 minutes to Morzine). Additional activities in the winter include snow-shoeing, paragliding and tobogganing.

- New in January 2008 was "The Stash" - a 100% natural snow playground in Avoriaz, based on the US concept of the same name. Created in conjunction with Burton, the Avoriaz Stash run is the only one of its kind in Europe and it comprises 3 slopes of varying difficulty, punctuated with hidden wooden obstacles that riders happen upon with each descent. The area is left un-pisted and all the obstacles are made entirely from wood. (Total length = 1300m, vertical drop = 470m).
Summer activities in this spectacular region include hiking, (there are 200km of marked walks) mountain -biking, cycling, ballooning, paragliding, swimming (pool at Morzine and lakes at Montriond and Les Gets) kayaking on the River Dranse, caving, horse-riding and pony -trekking, climbing and tennis. Lake Geneva, with all the water-sports you could wish for is only 30 minutes' drive
